The name may sound like they are committing an international felon, I love everything else about this winery. The winemaker, Bryan, is truly a gem of a person and killer vigneron. His partner, Emily, is an incredible artist who does all the labels. The wines are seriously delicious with a sense of place and a vision.
Bryan and Emily have traveled the world during their careers in wine, and they focus on one of the key principles of biodynamics: the idea that humans, vineyards, and nature have equal influence on each other and cannot be separated into traditional singular roles. This philosophy grounds their work, extending from the vines into the cellar. To let these inseparable relationships sing, Human Cellars takes a rather minimalistic and holistic approach to their products. The results are singular. I’ve not had such a charming introduction to a winery in a while.
This is 100% Cabernet Franc, sourced from Croft Vineyards, an organic site Bryan works on in the Willamette Valley. In search of fruit purity, he pulled back leaves early on both sides of the canopy to reduce green pyrazine notes in the wine. There is certainly purity galore in this mineral drenched, red-and-black fruited Cabernet Franc with just a touch of herbaceousness. It’s rare we get to try this variety from Oregon and it’s a total treat!
- Wednesdays we try to deliver north of the ship canal and Magnolia. Thursdays south of it. If either day is sold out don’t be shy about ordering for the other day, we’d love to bring you pizza!
- Saturday is for pickups at our Sodo Production Kitchen (3810 Airport Way S, 98108) from 12pm-4pm.
- Tuesdays we deliver to West Seattle/Burien/White Center/Seatac and Bellevue/Kirkland/Redmond/Mercer Island.
