From Dylan at Little Thing Wine:
I love the underbelly of the wine world. That sounds much more dramatic than it is, which is fine because I also love a touch of drama! Every industry has strange dynamics and societal norms, and only when you’ve worked in the world can you really unpack all of its intricacies. For example, this bottle has come our way because it was originally made for a hotel in Canada, but the complexities of import/export came into play and suddenly, this wine needs a domestic home. So the story goes! Lucky for us!
This is a delightful chillable red from GC wines in the Willamette Valley. Previously known as Grochau Cellars, GC wines is the umbrella winery for all of John Grocau’s projects, which was increased over the last 25 years. He is a staple in Oregon, exclusively working with organic vineyards across the Willamette.
The Cuvee Ensemble is a heady blend of white and red grapes: Pinot Noir, Gamay, Trousseau, Pinot Gris, and Auxerrois. It is as crunchy as can be, perfect for the transitional month of June, as we slowly make our way from spring to summer. (And maybe momentarily revisit fall and winter, as a Pacific Northwest June wants to do?) Strawberry, Rainier cherries, cherry blossoms, and spice—the nose is beguiling, to say the least. The palate is light and fresh, mixing all those red fruit notes with orange citrus and snappy greenery. We all know that chilled reds are *the thing* these days, and this one is truly a delightful example of why the category is so beloved.
